Parks Garden Center had their annual giant-pumpkin-weigh-off, and a monster pumpkin of 2,058 1/2 pounds topped them all.

CANFIELD, Ohio (WKBN) – A new Ohio state-record-setting pumpkin was weighed in Canfield on Saturday.

Parks Garden Center had their annual giant-pumpkin-weigh-off, and a monster pumpkin of 2,058 1/2 pounds topped them all. That beats the old record by 50 pounds.

The grower of the gargantuan gourd said growing one-ton pumpkins is more than a full-time job.

“I put about 40 hours a week into the patch,” Jerry Snyder said. “I get off work at 3:30 [p.m.] and I’m out there til dark, most nights.”

“Just got a little lucky holding it together til the end this year.”

Snyder has held pumpkin growing records in the past, but this is his first record in over a decade.
