NORTH BLOOMFIELD, Ohio – Rudolph “Rudy” Michael Malys, 87, passed away October 9, 2016 at his daughter’s home.
He was born August 27, 1929, a son of Michael Malys and Bessie Yusko in Warren, Ohio.
Rudy graduated from Warren G. Harding High School in 1948.
He served in the United States Army for four years attaining the rank of Sergeant.
He retired from Packard Electric in 1985 after 30 years of service.
He was also active in the business community as the founder and owner of several small businesses including the legendary Roo-Dee’s drive-in in Cortland, the Warren Boat Shop, Whetson Farm Market and Sunnyslope Greenhouses. He thoroughly enjoyed cultivating these businesses and watching them grow. Rudy was a generous businessman by helping other small business owners in the area. Many of those who worked with Rudy would consider him a “taskmaster” but a generous man which led to his businesses being successful.
Rudy enjoyed gardening, biking, water sports and traveling, especially to Hawaii and loved the ocean and being outdoors.
As John F. Kennedy said, “We are tied to the ocean. And when we go back to the sea — whether it is to sail or watch it – we are going back from whence we came.”
He will be missed immensely by his daughter Michele Monroe (Donald) of Niles, son Mark (Tina) of Plainfield, Illinois, daughter Melissa Persing (Dan) of Niles and daughter Malinda Garris (Dennis) of Vienna, Virginia.
He is also survived by ten grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Gertrude Hutchins of Cleveland and brother Robert Malys of Cortland. Also many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He is preceded in death by his parents and three brothers.
The family suggests material contributions be made to the Hospice of the Valley or the American Cancer Society.
There will be a private family service at All Souls Cemetery.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Staton-Borowski Funeral Home, 962 North Road, NE, Warren, Ohio 44483, 330-394-6200. Dedicated To Serving Your Loved Ones.
