YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – We are seven weeks into the high school football season, and the cream is starting to rise. Wins are piling up, and records are being broken by our Big 22 contenders.
The following players caught the attention of Sports Team 27 in week seven of the season.
We begin with the best to ever catch a ball in Mercer County. Sharon’s Ziyon Strickland had ten receptions for 141 yards, and two touchdowns Friday night. He nows ranks first in all three categories… and Strickland is just a junior.
East palestine earned its first conference win Friday night, thanks in large part to Parker Sherry. The sophomore quarterback had 285 yards passing, 158 yards rushing, and accounted for six touchdowns in the bulldogs second straight win over Crestview.
The first conference champion of 2016 season was crowned Friday night. Lynn Bowden racked up over 200 yards rushing and scored four touchdowns… helping Warren Harding remain undefeated, and clinch the AAC Gold Tier title.
Hickory is still unbeaten, and Chuck Carr continues to re-write the record book in Mercer County. Carr finished with a staggering 242 yards rushing and five touchdowns in the Hornets big win over Sharpsville.
Finally, our player of the game from Friday night was Western Reserve Junior Jack Cappabianca. He rushed for a game-high 142 yards…helping the Blue Devils knock off rival McDonald…while keeping their playoff hopes alive.
