YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – A Youngstown State professor has won a prestigious award that also comes with an impressive prize for the university.

Bonita Sharif, who is a Computer Science professor, was given a $416,000 research grant on Thursday to study eye-tracking technology to better understand software development.

The award was presented by University President Jim Tressel. The grant comes from the National Science Foundation and is good for five years.

Sharif said she will use the money to hire students to help with research.

“My advice to students when they come in is talk to your professors, ask them if there is there any project they need help with,” she said. “We love to talk about our project we’re working on. We obviously need more help. There’s always a need for more students to work on stuff.”

Sharif plans to hire one graduate student and three undergraduate students per semester.
