BOARDMAN, Ohio (WKBN) – It took two overtime periods to determine a winner in Boardman Friday night, but the Spartans eventually prevailed, coming away with a 21-14 win over Ursuline.
Boardman’s Gaven Strines scored the first touchdown of the game, recovering a fumble for a score when a snap went over the head of an Ursuline player, giving the Spartans a 7-0 lead.

Ursuline QB Jared Fabry connected with Dakota Hobbs for a 30 yard touchdown to close the gap to 7-6. The extra point attempt was no good.
Koby Adu-Poku’s five yard TD run with 6:46 remaining in the first half to give the Spartans a 14-6 lead, capping a long, 11 play, 56 yard drive for the Spartans.
The Spartans took an eight point lead into the half.
Fabry and Hobbs reconnected for a score again, this time from 33 yards away, with just :56 remaining in the game. The Irish converted the two point opportunity to send the game to overtime.
Adu-Poku’s second score of the game would come in the second overtime period. The nine yard run turned out to be the clincher, with the Spartan defense coming up with a stop to win the game.
Ursuline (2-5) will host Cardinal Mooney in week nine. Boardman (3-5) will visit Austintown Fitch.
