The ensuing kickoff was muffed by a Harding player, leading to a Mooney recovery.
This time it took four plays for the Cardinals to find the end zone. Antonio Page found the end zone for his 8th rushing touchdown of the season, this one from 8 yards out to extend the Mooney lead to 14-0 with 9:18 left in the first quarter.
Desemen Douglas got Harding on the board for the first time later in the first quarter with an 18 yard touchdown run to cap a 5 play, 70 yard drive.
Page would find the end zone again with 6:44 left in the second quarter capping a long, 12 play, 55 yard drive for the Cardinals. After the nearly seven minute drive, the Cardinals held a 21-7 lead.
That lead was cut down quickly when reigning Big 22 Player of the Year Lynn Bowden connected with Tavon Hooks for a 66 yard touchdown reception to close the gap back to one score, 21-14.
A few minutes later, Bowden sprinted for a 43 yard rushing score to tie the game at 21-21.
A 54 yard run by Page set up a Ray Anderson touchdown run on the ensuing Mooney possession to extend the lead to 28-21.
The Raiders were stunned when a final push to get more points led to a Hewlett fumble recovery for a touchdown with just twelve seconds remaining in the first half.
Mooney took a 35-21 lead into the locker room.
Marlin Richardson started the second half off with a bang for the Raiders. A 52 yard kick return set up an eventual Bowden two yard touchdown to pull the Raiders within a score once again, 35-28.
Bowden and Richardson connected on what appeared to potentially be a game-winning touchdown pass with just 1:02 left in the game. But strong pressure from Mooney ended up causing a blocked extra point attempt.
Warren Harding was unable to recover an onside kick attempt and Mooney was able to run out the clock.
This is Warren Harding’s first regular season loss since a 27-19 defeat last season, also to Cardinal Mooney.
