The American Red Cross of the Mahoning Valley is on standby for Hurricane Joaquin.

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – The American Red Cross is bringing its disaster training program to Youngstown next week to prepare volunteers to go to North Carolina.

The Zero2Hero training session will be Tuesday, October 18 at 10 a.m. at the Red Cross on Belmont Avenue.

Zero2Hero provides new volunteers with training to work in disaster shelters, or become a client caseworker and respond to local disasters.

The trained volunteers will then be deployed to North Carolina to help with the aftermath of Hurricane Matthew.

The great response the Red Cross received from local communities convinced the organization to bring a Cleveland trainer to Youngstown.
