YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Over 400 Youngstown State student athletes were taught an important lesson tonight on the impacts of gambling addiction.
Tim Donaghy reffed for the NBA for 13 years before he was caught betting on the games and giving out inside information on the league.
He told the students in his speech that everything is a choice. He showed how his choices affected his family — leading to a divorce — and told stories about his time in federal prison.
“When you make a poor choice it, not only affects yourself but it affects the people that you’re surrounded with,” Donaghy said. “So that short road isn’t always the right road. Sometimes taking that long, difficult road is the path you need to take.”
Donaghy said he’s now working in real estate and spending as much time as possible with family.
