CANFIELD, Ohio – Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday, October 20 at Lane Family Funeral Home, 65 N. Broad Street, Canfield Chapel for Bonnie Anne Smith, 67, of Canfield, formerly of Wintersville, Ohio, who went to meet Our Lord on October 16, 2016.
Bonnie Anne Smith was born October 19, 1948.
She passed at home surrounded by family and friends under the care of “All Caring Hospice.”
She suffered a long illness for 18 years, the battle of her life, living her last five years with her daughter in Canfield.
Bonnie was a high school graduate from Steubenville “Big Red” High School.
She received her bachelor’s degree from the College of Steubenville, now the Franciscan University of Steubenville; her master of science in Teaching from the University of Dayton; her master of arts in English from Youngstown State University and in 2000 received her National Board Certification from the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards.
Her teaching career of 36 years covered various subjects including advanced placement English Literature and composition, college writing, major English and American authors, research paper and poetry to name a few.
She served on several committees in the Indian Creek Local School District including Indian Creek High School’s Principal’s Advisory Council, Scholarship Committee, Venture Capital Leadership Team, and advisor for the National Honors Society.
Bonnie belonged to the First Baptist Church of Steubenville and was a former member of Kolmont Community Church of Mingo Junction. During her membership at the church, she served as the pianist and head of the pulpit committee. She also served on the board at various times as secretary, treasurer, and head of the music committee.
She loved reading, knitting, playing trivia games, playing the piano, traveling to the ocean and reading to her grandchildren.
Being an only child she is preceded in death by her father, William Wilson in 1994 and her mother, “Peggy” Margaret Wilson in 2015.
She is survived by her daughter, Peggy Ceci (Peter D. Ceci) and son, David Smith (Elizabeth Smith) and three grandchildren, Rebekah, Caleb and Kaleigh.
She was well loved and will be missed by family and friends until we meet again.
Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 20, until the time of the service at 1:00 p.m. at Lane Family Funeral Home.
