Series Note: The 63rd meeting between Ursuline and Mooney will take place on Friday, October 21 at Stambaugh Stadium. The Cardinals lead the series, 39-20-3 but the Irish have taken four of their last six showdowns.
Last Meeting: Ursuline topped their rivals, 28-6, after accumulating 303 total yards of offense compared to just 163 for the Cardinals. Kimauni Johnson gained 116 rushing yards for the Irish while scoring twice.
Game Notes: Since falling to Boardman in week on September 2 (28-26), the Cardinals have ran off wins in four of their last five games.
This past week, Mooney stunned previously unbeaten Harding (35-34) on a back-and-forth encounter which saw a blocked extra-point by Antonio Page in the final moments of the Cardinals’ victory. Antonio Page and Jaylen Hewlett each rushed for over 100-yards as the team as a whole gained over 325 yards on the ground. Mooney’s defense forced two turnovers in the first half.
The Irish have lost five of their last six contests since beginning the season with a 2-0 start. Of Ursuline’s 8 games, they’ve faced four teams who are currently in the top three of their respective regions (Harding, #2 in Region 5; Massillon, #2 in Region 7; Hoban, #2 in Region 9; Steubenville, #3 in Region 15).
This past Friday, Boardman outlasted Ursuline in overtime, 21-14. The Spartans’ Kody Adu-Poku ran for over 100-yards and scored the game-winning touchdown (9 yard run) in overtime to life Boardman. Ursuline’s Dakota Hobbs nearly gained 6 yards per carry while hauling in 6 passes for over 100-yards as he scored both of the Irish touchdowns.
