YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – A funeral service celebrating the life of Mr. William “Bill” Lamar Bowers, Sr. will be held Saturday, October 22 at 10:00 a.m. at Rising Star Baptist Church.

Mr. Bowers departed this life October 17, 2016 at St. Elizabeth’s Health Care Center with his loving family by his side.

Mr. Bowers was born on December 17, 1966 in Youngstown, a son of William Duncan and Linda Bowers.

He was a 1985 graduate of The Rayen School and starting center on the 1985 Division 1 State of Ohio Boys’ Basketball Championship Team. He continued his academic/athletic career at Carthage Community College in Carthage, Texas and Yuba Community College in Yuba, California.

He was formerly employed with Northside Medical Center for over 24 years.

Bill enjoyed traveling as well as spending time with family and friends. Bill’s special interests and hobbies included drawing and fishing. Some of his favorite times out and about were to watch his son play basketball and taking his boat out to fish with his son, family and friends. Bill was a Cleveland Browns, Cavaliers and Indians fan for life.

He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife, the former Marisol Gonzalez; his loving children, William Bowers, Jr. and Yadira Colyar; his grandchildren, Qamar and Lenox; his loving mother, Linda Bowers; his brother, Thomas Malone; his sister, Shawnafee Sullivan; a host of other relatives and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, William; his grandmother, Dorothy Bowers and his uncles Stephen and Alexander Bowers.

The family will receive friends Friday, October 21 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at J. E. Washington Funeral Home and on Saturday, October 22 from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. at the church.

Interment will be in Belmont Park Cemetery.
