WARREN, Ohio (WKBN) – Police in Warren say charges are pending in an accident Monday on U.S. 422 that sent four people to the hospital.

Investigators say a red SUV driven by 27-year-old Bradley Maughan, of Warren, was heading westbound, traveling recklessly at a high rate of speed. He had two passengers in his car, according to a traffic report.

They said Maughan’s vehicle hit the curb near Red’s Auto Glass and turned on its side, hitting another car driven by 27-year-old Mychael Del Shon Porterfield, of Warren, who was¬†traveling in the opposite direction.

Police say naloxone was administered to Maughan, who was suspected to be under the influence of drugs.

“We’ve seen an increase in the opiate epidemic, the amount of Narcan that we’ve been administering, and also we’ve seen where a lot of these people that are under the influence of heroin and opiates have been driving vehicles,” said Warren Police Lt. Daniel Mason.

The extent of injuries from the crash is unknown, but investigators say they weren’t life-threatening.

Warren Police Department’s Traffic Unit is following up on the investigation and will be consulting with the city prosecutor before filing charges.
