Former Warren auditor going to federal prison

Anthony Natale was sentenced to one year and one day in jail and three years of probation after his release

Warren auditor Anthony Natale is charged with sending a letter containing white powder to a Boardman business.

WARREN, Ohio (WKBN) – Warren’s former auditor, Anthony Natale, will spend more than a year in prison for sending an envelope full of white powder to his former workplace.

Natale was sentenced to one year and a day in prison in federal court on Thursday. The 38 year old previously pleaded guilty to conveying false information related to the use of a weapon of mass destruction.

Investigators say Natale mailed the envelope to American Business Center in Youngstown in November 2014. Believing that the white substance was some sort of toxin, the building was evacuated and people were sent to the hospital before discovering the powder was harmless.

Prosecutors said Natale mailed the letter after he had been fired from American Business Center a month earlier.

Natale took office as Warren’s auditor in December 2015. He was replaced with Vince Flask after his conviction.

Natale was also ordered to pay $9,834 to the company and $14,361 to the first responders who evacuated the scene. He will serve three years of probation after his release and pay a $100 fine.
