CANFIELD, Ohio (WKBN) – Today’s weather problem is rain, but before long, it will be snow that Storm Team 27 is tracking.
The Ohio Turnpike and Infrastructure Commission is already preparing for the colder weather on Friday completing a 136-point inspection of its driving systems, salt spreaders and plows.
Every truck, front-end loader and plow was looked at from top to bottom inside the garage. Those vehicles then went on a dry run.
The equipment was tested to simulate the normal wear and tear that would occur during a snow or ice storm.
Crew are expecting to use over 65,000 tons of salt this year with a more snowy and cold winter expected
Want to see some of the equipment first-hand and ask the Turnpike Commission questions? An open house is set for 10 a.m. Saturday at the Canfield Maintenance Building, located at 6896 Tippecanoe Road.
