Trailing by three late in the fourth, Patrick Pelini scored on a short TD run with 24 seconds remaining to lift Mooney past Ursuline, 13-9.

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Trailing by three late in the fourth, Patrick Pelini scored on a short TD run with 24 seconds remaining to lift Mooney past Ursuline, 13-9.

The touchdown came after Ursuline’s Guy Michel Kaho nailed a 22-yard field goal to give the Irish a 9-6 lead with 1:55 remaining.

Following Mooney’s final score — which was keyed by a 70-yard reception by Darrell Jackson — Pelini notched an interception to ice the contest. He finished with two TDs and two interceptions.

Pelini put Mooney ahead 6-0 in the first when he returned a punt 70 yards for a score. But Ursuline tied it in the second when Dakota Hobbs capped a 9-play, 64-yard scoring drive with a 10-yard TD run.

Both teams missed their extra points, as the game was tied 6-6 at halftime.

Mooney finished with 185 yards of total offense, led by Jaylen Hewlett’s 39 yards. Joe Floyd paced Ursuline — which finished with 198 total yards — with 66 rush yards.

Cardinal Mooney (6-2) will travel to Austintown Fitch in week ten. Ursuline (3-6) will host Akron SVSM.
