WARREN, Ohio (WKBN) – A retired Warren Police officer was injured in a crash at the corner of Maryland Street NW and Mahoning Avenue NW on Saturday evening.
The crash happened just before 6 p.m.
According to a police report, Joseph D’Andrea was heading north on Mahoning Avenue and slowed down after spotting a mailbox in his lane. D’Andrea told officers before he could come to a stop, he saw a large black SUV, entering his lane and coming toward his vehicle.
That driver, the retired officer Timothy Brown, struck D’Andrea’s vehicle head on.
Both Brown and D’Andrea, were taken to Trumbull Memorial Hospital; and Brown was later taken to St. Elizabeth Hospital with possible breaks to his sternum, fibula and tibula. D’Andreas two passengers were also treated for injuries.
There is no word yet on Brown’s condition; the report says he was in too much pain to be able to talk about what happened.
Both vehicles had extensive damage to the front end.
No citations were given. The incident is still under investigation.
