YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – At just 7-years-old, a muscle disease and collapsed lung has left Youngstown boy John Shaee Jr. immobile.

“A few years ago, his lung collapsed and he had to get the machines on him and everything,” said Allen Crockett, John’s brother.

The life-threatening sickness means he spends most of his time at home and Akron Children’s Hospital.

He enjoys watching Disney on TV — which leads to his love for Mickey Mouse.

On Saturday, he got the chance to meet his favorite character on a trip to Disney World, courtesy of the Wishes Can Happen non-profit in Canton.

“They’re going to pay for us to go to Disney land for a week,” Crockett said. “Have a little fun out there with the little brother and the family.”

One of the organization’s Wish Granters Margie Toomb said she wanted to give the family time to have fun and relax.

“Giving the family the times off where they don’t have to worry about the day-to-day activities,” she said. “They can just relax and enjoy themselves.”

Saturday morning, a limo van picked up the family from home to take them to the airport.

Once they got to Orlando, everything was taken care of — from transportation to the theme park tickets to a villa at a Disney resort.

“It’s just blessed to be the one that’s winning,” Crockett said.

The Wishes Can Happen organization helps children all across Ohio. If you have a child you’d like to refer, go to their official website.
