Open house for Youngstown’s Pitt Institute of Aeronautics

Prospective students and employers came to visit the campus

Pittsburgh Institute of Technology will expand it's facility at the Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport.

VIENNA, Ohio (WKBN) – The Youngstown Campus of the Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics held its fall open house on Saturday.

More than 35 prospective students and employers came to visit the campus. The goal of the open house is to get people to choose PIA for its education.

Michael Ernst, an instructor at PIA Youngstown, said that there is a big need for aircraft maintenance technicians in the area, adding that the education can be challenging, but it’s for good reason.

“Safety being the major concern in aviation,” he said. “There’s a lot of very strict rules as far as how the aircraft’s are maintained. So it takes a good amount of training and then experience to do that correctly.”

Right now, PIA is working on an expansion to its training facilities.
