WARREN, Ohio (WKBN) – Doing anything and everything to help out folks in the community. That’s what Trumbull County Make a Difference Day is all about.

“It’s just a wonderful community filled with history and a wonderful community with lots of people who are always willing to pitch in,” said Event Organizer Sue Shafer.

North Mar Church in Warren helped sponsor the event that took place on Saturday. Twenty of the 63 total events were held at their church.

“Our goal is to get as many people from our church out of the pews and into the community,” church member Paul Armitage said.

A little of what took place, single mothers and widows could get their kids’ hair cut. And outside, they could bring their cars to a lot to get their oil changed free of charge.

“So we have 100 ladies that we’re changing their oil today,” Armitage said. “We also have a Red Cross blood drive and we also have a mobile dental clinic.”

The community appreciates their efforts.

“It’s special,” said community member¬†Yezmine Richardson. “It’s a good feeling that they’re willing to give up their Saturday morning to come and change our oils. I appreciate it.”

“Instead of complaining about the community, complaining about the government, complaining about the schools, we actually pick up a towel, pick up a shovel, pick up a rake, pick up a comb — whatever it takes — and we just serve our community,” Armitage said.
