WARREN, Ohio (WKBN) – Preschool teachers play an important role in kids’ education, proving it’s never too early to start learning.
“Preschool is a necessity these days. When you look at what kids are doing when they go into kindergarten, preschool is the new kindergarten,” said Jessica Logan, a preschool teacher at Warren schools.
She has a bachelor’s degree, which is one of her employer’s requirements.
“The main part of our job, really, is to help students set up a successful learning experience for the rest of their school career,” Logan said.
That means teaching them how to take turns and share, hold a pencil and eventually how to write their names.
State law requires one teacher in the class for every 12 students.
Holly Chambers assists Logan. She has an associate degree in child development, which is another option for people who want to work with preschoolers.
Both are working to keep preschool fun because children learn the best through play. Logan and Chambers are also trying to develop a set of skills in the children.
“Try to get those skills built up, where they’re able to work in a community together,” Chambers said.
Teaching will always be about the relationship between the instructors and students. What makes it so enjoyable for the teacher is the reward that comes when they see the kids learning.
“You can actually see when they get a concept, something that you’re trying to work with them on, and then they just flourish from there,” Chambers said.
