YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Work will be getting underway soon for the newest branch of the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County.

The Library Building and Sites Committee met Thursday morning to talk about bids and award contracts for the Michael Kusalaba Branch. That library is being built on the site of the previous West Library on Mahoning Avenue.

Brock Building Inc., of North Lima, was chosen as general contractor, with a bid of $2.67 million.

The library’s director says the cost is going to be a little pricey, but things should still be able to move forward.

“The bids total came in a little higher than we anticipated, but fortunately, we have a $1.8 million donation to help us offset the cost,” said Director Heidi Daniel.

That donation comes from the The Michael Kusalaba Fund of the Youngstown Foundation.

The committee also awarded contracts to the following bidders:

  • Plumbing: Acme Bros. Plumbing Contractors Co., of Leetonia, with a bid of $105,950
  • Mechanical: D&G Mechanical, Inc., of West Middlesex, with a bid of $199,710
  • Electrical: JR Warren Electrical Contracting, Inc., of New Castle, with a bid of $471,632.

The project architect is Faniro Architects. The timetable calls for the building to be done in about one year.
