Grove City advances; Adams scores 4 TDs & Patterson almost perfect

Grove City will now meet Fort LeBoeuf next Saturday in the Class 5A District semifinal.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pennsylvania (WKBN) – Grove City won their first playoff game in four years this evening over Central Tech, 43-19. The Eagles defeated North East (56-14) in the opening round of the 2012 District 10 Class AA playoffs from the same location where tonight’s contest took place (on November 10, 2012) – Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.

In the first half, the Falcons possessed the ball for 15:31 (compared to 8:29 by Grove City) but turned the ball over 3 times. Grove City outgained Central Tech, 208-136, in the opening twenty-four minutes. The Eagles scored touchdowns on their first five offensive possessions to take a 36-13 lead midway through the third quarter.

Grove City’s senior quarterback Kameron Patterson continued his stellar season by completing 10 of 11 for 222 yards and a touchdown. He also had a rushing touchdown and 38 stripes by way of his feet. For the season, Patterson has tossed 28 touchdown strikes and for 2,332 yards. Running back Trey Adams added 130 yards on 20 rushing attempts and 4 touchdowns in the game’s final 33 minutes. A.J. Turner and Nick Davies each had 3 receptions for 95 and 49 yards respectively.

The Eagles (9-1) had won their first eight games of the season before falling last week to Meadville (48-14). Grove City entered tonight’s matchup by averaging 429.2 yards per game. In tonight’s contest, the Eagles gained 401 yards as a team.

The Falcons (5-5) had won four of their previous five outings since beginning the year with a 1-3 record. Keyshawn Husband ran for 174 yards on 32 carries as he scored the game’s first touchdown from 12-yards away in the first quarter.
