Springfield wins ITCL Red Tier outright; improves to 8-2

The Tigers will await to see who they'll be hosting next week in the Division VI playoffs.

HANOVERTON, Ohio (WKBN) – Springfield topped United 38-6 to give the Tigers their first outright league championship since 2000 (ICL). Springfield has now won 7 consecutive games defeating the likes of Western Reserve, South Range, Columbiana, East Palestine and Crestview all during this current stretch.

The Tigers (8-2) have already clinched a home playoff game next week. Springfield outgained United on the ground with 237 yards compared to just 37 by the Eagles. Luke Snyder (95), Frankie Centofanti (75) and Brannon Brungard (56) all accumulated over 50 yards rushing. Brungard connected on 7 of 14 passes for 99 yards. For the season, Brungard has tossed for 968 yards and 11 TDs.

United’s offense was only able to gain 95 total yards throughout the game. The Tigers converted on 18 first downs (4 for United). Josh Good led the team in rushing with 22 yards on 7 carries. Nathan Mikell – who gained 206 yards rushing last week – was held to just 5 tonight. Mikell did complete 9 of 14 passing for 58 yards.

The Golden Eagles’ 2016 season comes to an end with a 2-8 mark after dropping their final six contests. Since their playoff appearance against Ursuline in 2014, the Golden Eagles have posted just 4 wins in their last 20 games.
