YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – On Saturday, Nov. 19, WKBN 27 First News anchor Stan Boney will be the master of ceremonies for the 30th annual Magic of the Angels’ Christmas, a holiday event presented by the Angels of Easter Seals.

The event is the Angels of Easter Seals’ biggest fundraiser of the year.

Joan Zarlenga is a member of the group and one of the people organizing the event. She explained what exactly the group does.

“They are a group of women who raise funds for Easter Seals [of Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties] for the children down there that have disabilities, and we also have adults that have disabilities, and the programs that they have we sort of fund them,” Zarlenga said.

The group has been around for about 40 years. For this 30th event, they will host a tree festival.

“We will have cocktails and dinner, and we will have designer items. This year we’re bringing back trees because in the past we’ve had a lot of trees and then we went to less trees. Now, this year, we’re going to try and bring back some trees. We’re going to have a live auction,” Zarlenga said.

There will be between 10 and 15 trees to auction off, among other designer and basket items. Some of the trees will be included in the live auction, while others will be in a silent auction.

Along with the Magic of the Angels’ Christmas event, the group also puts on a fashion show and a Christmas brunch to help raise money for the Easter Seals campaign. Magic of the Angels’ Christmas brings in the most money out of the fundraisers.

“We usually bring in $50,000 or $60,000 on that one-night fundraiser,” Zarlenga said.

This year, the event will take place at Mr. Anthony’s Banquet Center in Boardman from 6-11 p.m.
