CANFIELD, Ohio – Leonard Joseph Gagliardi, Sr., 68 passed away October 29, 2016 at Hospice House of Poland with his loved ones by his side.
Leonard was born August 3, 1948 in Youngstown, the eldest child of Leonard and Julienne (Delfs) Gagliardi and was a lifetime resident of Canfield.
He graduated from Canfield High School in 1967 and enlisted in the 33 T.A.C. U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War.
After graduating from Hiram College with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology and History, he became a licensed social worker and pursued his career in mental health case management working with D & E Upstream program and Parkview Counseling to provide services to children, adults and families.
Family was a center of Leonard’s life and with whom he shared his many interests. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed camping, inner-tubing, kayaking, white-water rafting and running – especially Community Cup. He also took great pleasure riding his custom motorcycle, designed by and a gift from his son.
Leonard actively encouraged and supported his children’s activities as they grew in scouting, track, cross-country and band and he was both a coach and judge for the policy and debate team. He was a fabulous cook and enjoyed sharing his talents preparing “comfort food”, Italian dishes and holiday dinners. He was quite the history buff and welcomed any opportunity to discuss history and world affairs and Leonard always held a special place in his heart for cats in need and provided a loving home for many rescues over the years.
Leonard was a member of St. Michael’s Church of Canfield, a 23 year member of the once Kiwanis Club of Canfield, a past member of the Elks Lodge of Youngstown, a member since 1970 of the American Legion Post #177 of Canfield, and Argus Lodge #545 F & AM of Canfield.
