James Lapolla facing OVI charge, Howland Township

NILES, Ohio (WKBN) – Howland Township Trustee James Lapolla, Jr. is facing an OVI charge after a traffic stop in Niles on Saturday.

Police said Lapolla traveled left of center on US-422. He was stopped around 2 a.m. Saturday, according to a police report.

Police said Lapolla had difficulty with his wallet and dropped several items when asked for his identification.

The report says Lapolla’s eyes appeared glossy and he smelled of alcohol. He admitted to drinking approximately four drinks that night.

Police said Lapolla failed a field sobriety test. He was arrested and taken to the Niles Police Department, where he refused to submit a blood-alcohol test.

Lapolla is scheduled to appear in Niles Municipal Court at 8:45 a.m. Tuesday.
