WARREN, Ohio (WKBN) – The driver charged with hitting and killing a man in Warren before leaving the scene was sentenced Monday in Trumbull County Court of Common Pleas.
Daniel Waggoner, Jr., 29, pleaded guilty to leaving the scene of a crash and tampering with evidence. He was sentenced to three years in prison in Judge Peter Kontos’s courtroom.
Waggoner was arrested in August. Police said he struck 61-year-old Paul Rose while he attempted to cross US 422 at Rogers Avenue. The car hit Rose so hard that his shoes came off, and he later died from his injuries.
Investigators said while bystanders rushed over to help, Waggoner drove away. The community and other police departments helped track Waggoner down with a description of the vehicle.
