REYNOLDSBURG, Ohio – John Westley Tate, Sr., 83, of Reynoldsburg, departed this life Monday, October 31, 2016 at Mt. Carmel West Hospital.
He was born May 26, 1933 in Macon, Mississippi, the son of Oscar and Ora Lee Tate, residing in Reynoldsburg for three years.
Mr. Tate was employed with W.C.I. Steel Corp. for 48 years in the Blast Furnace, before retiring in 1999.
He was a member of Price Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church, where he was on the Usher Board and Rising Star Lodge No. 90 F.A.M.
He leaves to mourn, two sons, John W. (Tiffany) Tate, Jr. of Cincinnati and William Frank (Angela) Hulley of Ft. Washington, Maryland; two daughters, Ms. Linda Sutton of Atlanta, Georgia and Ms. Margaret R. Tate of Columbus; five sisters, Ms. Matt Williams, Mrs. Zantha (Gary) Mae Ellis both of Youngstown, Ms. Bernice Gaston of Chicago, Illinois, Ms. Ora Lee Miller of Selina, Kansas and Ms. Erma Jean Miller of Raleigh Durham, North Carolina; seven grandchildren;, 6 great-grandchildren; special friend, Ms. Donna McCrae of Columbus; caregiver, Marcus Barnes; a grandson he reared and a host of relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Thomas Jones; three brothers, Finis Tate, Thomas Tate and Oscar Tate.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, November 5, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the Price Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church.
Calling Hours will be held one hour prior to service (10:00-11:00 a.m.).
Burial will take place at Tod Homestead Cemetery.
Arrangements of comfort were handled by the Sterling-McCullough Williams Youngstown Funeral Home.
