WARREN, Ohio (WKBN) – There have been quite a few “coming soon” and “grand opening” signs in downtown Warren lately, with three brand new businesses moving in to Courthouse Square.
The Speakeasy Lounge had its grand opening Wednesday.
“It’s a good time and a good place to put a business downtown. There’s a lot going on. I think there’s going to be more going on in the next few months, next few years, so we made an investment,” said Tony Schoffer, owner of the Speakeasy Lounge.
Two other businesses, Nova Coffee and Sew Cute!, are set to open in early 2017.
That’s just on the North Park side of Courthouse Square. To the mayor, this excitement brings new life to downtown Warren.
“We’re seeing a lot of new energy and new investment in downtown Warren,” Mayor Doug Franklin said. “There’s not a lot of spaces left downtown and we’re working very hard to fill up all of these spaces and it’s been successful.”
That means a bright future for the city.
“It is the center, it is the heart of the city,” said Melissa Holmes from Warren’s redevelopment and planning team. “So I think as people realize that there is a main area where things are growing, that once we fill up this spot, then we can start to expand to other areas.”
Both Sew Cute! and Nova Coffee are participants in the city’s pop-up project. The next pop-up date is set for Small Business Saturday on November 26.
