NEWTON FALLS, Ohio (WKBN) – The Newton Falls Joint Fire District concluded the interview process for a new fire chief Wednesday night.

Earlier this year, the department hired Anita Smith to replace retired long-time Chief Richard Bauman. However, Smith did not have the credentials to work in Ohio because they didn’t transfer from Nevada.

The interview process ended with five applicants being considered.

The one applicant with previous fire chief experience is Todd Garland, of Braceville.

A new permanent fire chief will be hired in the coming weeks.
