WARREN, Ohio – Sylvia J. Markopoulos, 78, passed away peacefully with her family by her side, Wednesday, November 2, 2016, at the Windsor House in Champion.
She was born April 28, 1938, in Youngstown, Ohio, the daughter of the late John and Polyhymnia Vouis.
She was a 1956 graduate of Campbell High School and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts from Youngstown State University.
For 25 years, she worked as a substitute teacher for the Warren City Schools and was also a freelance Interior Decorator.
She was a member of St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Warren, the Daughters of Penelope and the Philoptochos Society.
She is survived by her children, Kirk (Karen) Markopoulos of Peidmont, California, Palan (Steven) Lussier of Howland and Kristan (Dan) Quinn of Chardon; six grandchildren, Michelle, Nicole and Gina Lussier, Theodore and Nikolas Markopoulos and Ian Quinn; a sister, Thelma Spirtos of Whittier, California; two brothers, George (Sherrie) Vouis of Key Biscayne, Florida and Steve (Lorraine) Vouis of Whittier, California and three sister-in-laws, Patricia Vouis of Westerville, Ohio, Sylvia (Phillip) Bardos of Powell, Ohio and Beverly Markopoulos of Niles.
She is preceded by her parents; husband, Dr. Elefterios K. “Tedd Markopoulos, who she married August 26, 1962 and passed away March 9, 2014; son, Jon Markopoulos and a brother, Phillip Vouis.
Family and friends may call Wednesday, November 9, 2016, from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. with a 5:30 p.m. Trisagion Service and Thursday, November 10, 2016, from 10:00 – 10:30 a.m. at the Peter Rossi & Son Memorial Chapel in Warren.
A Service will be Thursday, November 10, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church with Fr. Constantine Valantasis officiating.
Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Warren.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Sylvia’s name to St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 429 High St., Warren, Ohio 44481.
