WILMINGTON, Pennsylvania (WKBN) – Farrell raced out to an early lead, and never looked back in a 52-16 win over Cochranton in the District 10 Class A Semifinals Thursday at Wilmington High School.
The Steelers got on the board less than three minutes into the game when Kyi Wright connected with Brandon Chambers on a 36-yard touchdown pass. The two-point conversion made it 8-0 Farrell. Chambers finished with 123 rushing yards on the night.
Wright then came up big on the defensive side of the ball, returning an interception 47-yard for a score. The two-point conversion was no-good, keeping the score 14-0.
Following a Cochranton touchdown, Farrell added to its lead when Brandon Chambers raced in for a 47-yard touchdown run to increase the lead to 22-8 late in the first quarter.
The Steelers added to their lead when Kyi Wright plunged in for a one-yard touchdown run. The two-point conversion was unsuccessful, but Farrell’s lead was increased to 28-8 more than halfway through the second quarter.
Sixteen seconds later, Brandon Chambers intercepted a pass, and returned it 36-yards for a touchdown. With the 2-point conversion, the Steelers led 36-8.
Farrell picked up right where they left off early in the third quarter. Braxton Chapman scampered in for a 41-yard touchdown. With the two-point conversion, the Steelers built a 44-8 advantage. Chapman tallied 122 rushing yards in the victory, and is now Farrell’s all-time leading rusher with 2,894 yards and counting.
Kyi Wright’s big night continued with just over four minutes left in the third quarter, finding the endzone from 86 yards out. Off a botched PAT try, the Steelers converted the two-point conversion to take a 52-8 lead. Wright ended the night with 103 rushing yards on three carries.
Farrell improves to 7-3 overall on the season. The Steelers advance to face West Middlesex in the District 10 Class A Finals on Thursday November 10th at a location to be determined.
