Pedestrian struck, killed along Route 422 in Parkman

The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating an accident where a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle early Friday morning

A person was killed after the victim was hit by a vehicle along Route 422 in Parkman, Ohio.

PARKMAN, Ohio (WKBN) – The Ohio State Highway Patrol in Geauga County is investigating an accident in which a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle early Friday morning.

The accident happened about 5:40 a.m. along US-422 westbound, just east of State Route 528 in Parkman Township.

Paramedics attempted to revive the victim, identified as 76-year-old James Carter, but were not successful. Carter, who lives in Maple Heights, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Troopers said Carter was struck by 27-year-old Ronald Nickell, Jr., of Warren. Nickell was traveling westbound on US-422 in a 2013 Ford E35- van at the time of the accident. nvestigators say Carter was not in a crosswalk.

Nickell was uninjured.

Troopers do not think drugs or alcohol were involved but continue to investigate.
