HUBBARD, Ohio – Robert David (Bob) Szanny, 66, passed away peacefully at Briarfield Manor Nursing home in Austintown, Friday, November 4, 2015, after a long courageous battle with lung cancer.
Robert was born in Youngstown on August 15, 1950.
He attended Hubbard High School graduating in 1968 and was a member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church in Hubbard.
Robert lived a very simple life style but was cherished as a beloved friend by anyone who came to know him.
He worked for 38 years at the Youngstown Country Club, where he served on the grounds staff as manager of the golf cart fleet.
Robert was an ardent fan of Cleveland Indians baseball as well as the Cleveland Browns football team and could often be found in his mobile home glued to the television during one of their games. His favorite past time was playing his Gibson ‘Les Paul’ guitar and participating in musical jam sessions with some of his close friends in the music field. Robert also had a great love for animals, particularly cats and dogs. He found great joy in caring for his personal pets as well as feeding any stray animals that might happen by.
Robert is survived by two brothers, Roy (Donna) of Salem and Gary (Donna) of Gadsden, Alabama.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Margaret and this past year by a younger brother, Mark Szanny.
Per Robert’s wishes, no calling hours or specific funeral services will be held.
A future dedicated Sunday mass will be scheduled at his home parish in Hubbard as well as in the home parishes of his brothers.
Inurnment will be at Tod Homestead Cemetery in Youngstown.
