YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – A Puerto Rican man was sentenced to more than 21 years in prison for assaulting federal officers, failing to register as a sex offender and a firearms offense, law enforcement officials said.
Luis Cruz Ramos pleaded guilty earlier this year to one count each of assaulting federal officers, brandishing a firearm in furtherance of crime of violence and failing to register as a sex offender.
In March, Cruz Ramos started a chase in Campbell that lasted for hours. Days later, U.S. Marshals spotted Cruz Ramos on Youngstown’s south side and chased him again, shooting him in the leg when he pointed a gun at them.
At the time of the chase, Cruz Ramos had a warrant out for his arrest out of Puerto Rico on charges surrounding the sexual assault of a 14-year-old girl.
Investigators say Ramos failed to register as a sex offender after traveling to Ohio.
