In a turn of events, at the end of the third quarter – Mooney’s Jaylen Hewlett had the ball stripped out of his grip and Ryan LeBanc for the Lions plunged in from three-yards out to give NDCL an 11-point advantage (17-6) as the clock read zeros. Then, with just over seven minutes to play – up by five (17-12), NDCL fumbled the ball away at their own 36-yard line. However, the Lions’ defense held the Cardinals from scoring to maintain their advantage with just under 4 minutes to play.

Mooney (8-3) had now won their previous four games in a row since their setback to Canisius (NY) five weeks ago (31-14).

The Lions’ season continues at 9-3. Entering last week, Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin had only won one playoff game in school history. In week 11, they matched that feat by knocking off Crestwood on the road – 28-27. This week, they surpassed it.
