Key Returnees
A large senior class led by Autumn Hutson (4.2 apg, 2.9 spg), Kayla Barreca (7.5 ppg, 8.3 rpg, 3.2 apg), Hannah Harnichar (5.9 ppg, 2.8 apg), and Ashley Sembach (38.9% 3PT) lend a solid foundation of leadership to Newton Falls. Junior small forward Izzy Kline returns after averaging a double-double (15.4 ppg, 10.7 rpg) while shooting 41.7% from long distance and 55.7% from the floor overall. Coach Baker likes what he has seen out his group so far. “You worry about team chemistry each year, how will they function together. Often it takes a long time to learn how your teammates are thinking or how they will react to certain situations. They built team chemistry very quickly, much quicker then I (could’ve) imagined. They are a very tight knit group. They’re friends in-and-out of basketball and spend a lot of time with each other. With that being said, we’ve had a very successful off-season.”

Outlook
On February 27, the Newton Falls’ girls basketball team accomplished a feat that no other in school history had done – to win a district championship. Behind Gabby Kline’s 16 point performance – the Lady Tigers defeated Brookfield to win the Division III Ravenna District crown (32-28).

Without Gabby in the mix, “I expect this team to have a successful season,” says coach Baker. “We prefer to look at the game of basketball by looking at possession-by-possession or pass-by-pass even down to the smallest detail. I expect them to be fully committed to giving (their) maximum effort. I expect them to concentrate on each pass, each dribble, each shot, each rebound. We (want) to (be)mentally sharp on the play at hand, if we can do that then good things are sure to follow.”
