Garfield outlasts LaBrae

Garfield advances to play Canton Central Catholic next week.

Kyle Borelli celebrates with his teammates after scoring the game-winning touchdown for Garfield Saturday night.

NILES, OH (WKBN)-The LaBrae Vikings had a lead with less than a minute to go, but Garfield pulled off the upset for the second straight week as the G-Men got the win, 33-28.

The Vikings held a 13-7 lead at half, but the G-Men scored 14 unanswered points to take the lead in the 4th quarter.

That is when Carlton Brown found Tariq Drake for a 65-yard touchdown catch for the Vikings, and after converting the two-point conversion, tied the game at 21.

But that didn’t last long, as Garfield needed just one play on the next drive to take the lead thanks to Kyle¬†Borelli breaking off a 75-yard touchdown run to make it 27-21.

That set the stage for the Vikings late in the game. With under a minute to go, Brown had a pass deflected in the end zone, which found the waiting hands of Benton Tennant to put LaBrae up 28-27.

But Garfield would drive the field thanks in part to a pass interference penalty on the Vikings goal line which set up Borelli to scamper 13-yards to give the G-Men the lead for good.

Garfield advances to play Canton Central Catholic in the Regional Final as LaBrae ends the season 8-4.
