AUSTINTOWN, Ohio – Benjamin J. “Ben” Mendelle, age 69, of Austintown, formerly of Canton, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Sunday, November 13, 2016.
Born June 24, 1947 in Montreal, Canada, he was the son of Harry and Leah (Siegle) Mendelle.
Ben graduated from Duquesne University, had worked for Equi-Bank and was currently working for NeuTech Packaging Systems.
Ben was a member of the Tabernacle Evangelical Presbyterian Church and sang with the Praise Team. He volunteered many hours in the church kitchen. He was known as a strong Prayer Warrior and loved God and God’s people. He was proud of his heritage as a Messianic Jew.
He was also a part of the East Ohio Emmanuel Emmaus and Western Reserve Emmaus Communities. He served the communities by obtaining brailed materials for other visually impaired participants. Ben also helped baked cookies for the Kairos Prison Ministry.
He enjoyed music, collecting lighthouses and mugs. Many of his friends would bring back mugs for him from places they visited. He also enjoyed attending Austintown Fitch musical and sporting events.
Ben had a great sense of humor and an unforgettable laugh. He was a very thoughtful and caring person.
Survivors include his two nephews, Ofer and Eran Ayal, both of Georgia; an uncle, Mort Siegle of Toronto, Canada; his church family at Tabernacle Evangelical Presbyterian Church who loved and cared for him; as well as many friends and church family from the Canton area.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Noam Ayal.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Tabernacle Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 2432 S. Raccoon Rd., Austintown on Saturday, November 19, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. where friends will be received immediately following for a fellowship luncheon at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his honor to the Scholarship Fund of the East Ohio Emmanuel Emmaus Community (EOEE) in care of Kimberly Baer, 1605 Applewood Way, Uniontown, Ohio 44685.
