WARREN, Ohio – Gene E. Phinisee, Sr., 67, of 1092 Orlo Drive, N.W., Warren, departed this life Sunday, November 13, 2016 at 4:37 a.m. at St. Joseph Hospital, following an extended illness.
He was born December 26, 1948 in Columbus, Mississippi, the son of Pope and Pearl Sykes Phinisee.
Mr. Phinisee was employed with General Motors Lordstown for 42 years in Maintenance, before retiring in 2012.
He was a member of Monument of Faith Church of God in Christ, Veterans Helping Veterans, UAW Local 1714 and enjoyed fishing, working in the garden, watching boxing and westerns. He was also a 1965 graduate of Warren G. Harding High School.
Mr. Phinisee served honorably in the U.S. Marine Corps as a Corporal during the Vietnam War, receiving the Purple Heart Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with one star, Vietnam Campaign Medal with device and Rifle Marksman Badge.
He married Frances Louise Cambridge Phinisee October 17, 1987.
Besides his wife of Warren, he leaves to mourn three sons, Sean (Cathy) Sparks of Indianapolis, Indiana, Gene Edward (Yulonda) Phinisee, Jr. of Warren and Joseph Antonio (Shontaya) Phinisee of Columbus; one daughter, Mrs. Mitika Stanford of Houston, Texas; 12 grandchildren; one great-grandchild and a host of relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Pope Phinisee, Jr. and Willie Phinisee.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, November 21, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the Monument of Faith COGIC.
Calling Hours will be held Sunday, November 20, 2016 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the Sterling-McCullough Williams Funeral Chapel.
Burial will take place at Pineview Memorial Park Cemetery.
Family will receive friends at 1092 Orlo Street, N.W., the family home.
Arrangements of comfort were handled by the Sterling-McCullough Williams Funeral Home.
