WARREN, Ohio – Mary Elizabeth “Liz” Hampton, 79, of 1381 Mahoning Avenue, Warren, Ohio, departed this life Monday, November 14, 2016 at 6:41 a.m. at Trumbull Memorial Hospital, following an extended illness.
She was born April 4, 1937 in Luverne, Alabama, the daughter of William J. and Vonicia Caffie Hampton.
After her mother died she was raised by her grandparents, John and Mary Hampton. She resided in Warren since 1959.
Ms. Hampton was employed with Trumbull Community Action Program (TCAP) for 32 years as an Educational Assistant and Teacher, before retiring in 2015.
She was an active member of Trinity Baptist Church, where she was Mission President, visited the elderly and enjoyed reading.
She was a 1958 graduate of Crenshaw County Training School and received her CDA certificate.
She leaves to mourn one son, Larry (Edwina) Hampton of Birmingham, Alabama; one daughter, Mrs. Zoe Hampton Dotson of Warren; five grandchildren, Raishod Hampton, Ms. Gleneisha Hampton, Jamel Hampton, Michael Hampton and Ms. Sa’Tara Hampton; four great-grandchildren, Miss Alexis, Miss Meme, King and Ivey; one cousin she was raised with, Johnnie Ray (Winifred) Hampton of Jersey City, New Jersey and a host of relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; grandparents; one sister, Rebecca Hall; one aunt she was raised with, Ms. Helen Jackson and two cousins, Charles Richard and Kenneth McClenen.
Calling Hours will be held Tuesday, November 22, 2016 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the Trinity Baptist Church.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday, November 23 at Noon at Oakwood Cemetery.
Family will receive friends at 1214 South Street, S.E., the home of her daughter, Zoe Hampton Dotson.
Arrangements of comfort were handled by the Sterling-McCullough Williams Funeral Home.
