YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – President-elect Donald Trump will apparently have a political ally from the Democratic side in his efforts to rewrite the nation’s trade regulations.
Senator Sherrod Brown says he has already been talking with officials from the new Trump Administration about making changes to existing programs, such as the North American Free Trade Agreement, as well as other deals enacted under previous presidents.
“I want to help him renegotiate NAFTA. I want to help him kill the Trans Pacific Partnership,” Brown said. “I disagree with this president-elect on most things but on trade, on American jobs, I want to help him do what he promised he would do.”
During the campaign, Trump promised to rewrite many of the nation’s trade agreements, claiming they actually helped foreign countries dump goods in the United States while costing Americans jobs.
