Dispatchers said investigators were called after someone reported finding what appeared to be a pipe bomb

Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers have blocked a portion of the Ohio Turnpike, near mile marker 239, for an investigation of a suspected bomb.

NEW SPRINGFIELD, Ohio (WKBN) – An investigation into what was suspected to be a pipe bomb turned out to be a false alarm.

An Ohio Turnpike employee found the item near an access road near the toll plaza at mile marker 239. The access road was closed by Ohio State Highway Patrol while the Youngstown Bomb Squad investigated the item.

The Bomb Squad determined that the item was only a PVC pipe with wires in it.

The scene has now been cleared.
