Citizens bank donated $10,000 to Second Harvest Food Bank.

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – The Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley is gearing up for a busy holiday season, and they are looking to ship out thousands of chickens to clients throughout the area.

The distribution is being made possible through a $10,000 gift from Citizens Bank.

Over 2,500 chickens, totaling 13,000 pounds will be distributed to the food bank’s 148 agencies across Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties.

“Citizens has been a great partner with Second Harvest for many years. And this year, they’ve donated $10,000 to purchase chickens…that’s going to make a big difference,” Iberis said.

The Holiday Food Drive is underway at Second Harvest and donations are critical to help the agency continue to feed its growing number of clients. Iberis said the food bank provides more than 10,000 meals requests per week, and the number continues to grow.

The Food Bank distributed a record 10.4 million pounds of food to hunger-relief agencies in Columbiana, Mahoning and Trumbull counties in 2015, 32 percent of those served were children.
