BOARDMAN, Ohio (WKBN) – A Mahoning County Sheriff’s employee is on administrative leave after he was charged with starting¬†a bar fight at the Blue Wolf Tavern.

Mahoning County Sheriff Jerry Greene said Zachary Pasko works in the county jail. Saturday, Pasko was charged with assault after officers were called to the bar for a fight between two men.

Witnesses at the bar told police that Pasko started yelling at a man and then punched him in the face as he started to walk away.

Pasko admitted to punching the man and said he did so after the man told him not to talk to a woman, identified as Rachelle Durkin, according to a police report.

Durkin was also arrested and charged with disorderly conduct on Saturday. Police said she interfered in the investigation by yelling at officers who were questioning the victim.

Police said Pasko did not have any visible injuries, and the man he punched had a cut on his mouth and nose. Surveillance video showed the victim’s version of events, according to the report.

A pretrial hearing on the charge is scheduled at 4 p.m. December 22.

Sheriff Greene said his department is conducting its own internal investigation, and Pasko will likely face discipline. During the internal investigation, he will remain on administrative leave.

Pasko was hired by the Sheriff’s Office on Oct. 5, 2015.
