Key Returnees
Replacing the school’s all-time leading scorer – Jaden Walton along with two other starters – will not be an easy task. The Tigers return a pair of senior starters in Ben Simpson (6’5) and Joey Urso (6’0). Simpson averaged 7.8 points and 7.1 rebounds as a junior while shooting 59.1% from the floor (81-137). Urso was a jack of all trades last season as he scored 4.8 points, grabbed 4.2 rebounds, dished out 3.5 assists and shot 32.4% from three-point land (11-34). The team will also welcome back Vince Dragich (6’4/SR), Evan Purnell (6’0/SR), Chris Rankin (6’4/JR) and Gage Friend (6’9/SO). A large number of players who will be seeking varsity playing time include seniors Kevin Dunn (5’10), Kaden Myers (6’3) and Braden Bungard (5’11) as well as a junior George Thomas (5’6) and freshman Asam Honeycutt (6’2).

Outlook
Despite losing so much from last year’s District Championship team, coach Roy Sembach isn’t sure what to expect. “We lost a lot and will have a totally different type of team than we’re used to. Instead of being guard oriented with very little height, we are very big (probably biggest team I‘ve ever had) and may be short on guard play. Shooting and ballhandling will be the biggest factors in determining how well we do.”

Over the course of the last nine years, Newton Falls has compiled a winning percentage of 72.6% (159-60).
