COLUMBUS, Ohio (WKBN) – State Rep. Sean O’Brien hosted the Girard High School Robotics Team on Wednesday at the Ohio Statehouse and presented them with an official resolution from the House of Representatives in honor of their recent state championship.
“I am delighted to have such incredibly talented young leaders excelling academically in our community and state,” O’Brien said. “Their tremendous accomplishments at this early stage in life will continue to benefit the Mahoning Valley in the years to come.”
The Girard “RoboCats,” as the Robotics Team is known, features 41 local students who constructed a robot capable of kicking a ball and climbing a tower. The “RoboCats” placed first at the Ohio State FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics Championship this past spring, marking their best finish in team history.
“I look forward to watching these students continue to grow and succeed as they meet future challenges, both in and out of the classroom,” O’Brien said.. “The people of Trumbull County are so proud of all that our students have accomplished. I can’t wait to see what comes next for them.”
The Girard High ‘RoboCats’ were honored in front of the entire House at the first legislative session since the end of summer recess with the presentation of the official resolution in recognition of their achievements. The resolution, numbered House Resolution 444, was adopted earlier this year and will now be recorded in state archives for all time.
