CANFIELD, Ohio – There will be a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Monday at St. Michael Church in Canfield for Almeda Sherba, 100, of Canfield, who passed away Wednesday afternoon, November 16, at St. Elizabeth Boardman Health Center.
Almeda was born February 15, 1916 in the Borough of East Pittsburgh, a daughter of Elmer and Mary Leierzaph Beistel.
Almeda was a 1934 graduate of Turtle Creek High School in Pennsylvania.
She was employed with Westinghouse Air Brake Company from 1936 to 1947 and then in 1948, became a mother and homemaker.
Almeda was a member of the St. Michael RSVP Stitchers Group. She enjoyed playing cards and was an avid and passionate fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates.
Her husband, Paul M. Sherba, whom she married in 1944, died in 1988.
Almeda is survived by her sons, Paul Z. (Juanita) Sherba of Canfield, Dennis E. Sherba of Youngstown and Robert M. (Lori) Sherba of Bentonville, Arkansas; her grandchildren, Adam Sherba, Rachael Ames, Keith Mason, Kimberly Grossman, Brian Sherba and Shelby Sherba; her great-grandchildren, Hazel and Rowan Sherba, Ford Grossman and Greta Mason and was a surrogate grandmother of numerous children from Pittsburgh to Missoula, Montana.
Besides her husband, Almeda was preceded in death by her daughter, Maryann Mason; her siblings, Mildred Burger, Virginia Schrock, Elmer Beistel, Virgil Beistel and Marie Wilson and her grandson, Noah Sherba.
Friends may call from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. Sunday, November 20, at the Lane Family Funeral Homes-Canfield Chapel and 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. Monday, November 21, at the church, prior to the Mass.
