YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – John Alexander Carter, 81, of Youngstown, departed this life on Thursday, November 17, 2016, at 1:30 a.m. at Park Vista Senior Community.
He was born February 25, 1935, in Youngstown, Ohio, the son of Armstead J. and Hattie Emma Jones Carter.
Mr. Carter was employed with Youngstown Steel Door Company for 35 years as a Gang Leader before retiring in 1987 and was a self-employed Wallpaper Hanger.
He attended Tabernacle Baptist Church as a young man, he enjoyed gardening and was a handyman. He was an avid fan of the Cleveland Indians, Browns, Cavaliers, as well as, local Youngstown teams.
He married Jacquelyn C. Suber Carter on October 17, 1964.
Besides his wife of Youngstown, he leaves to mourn, two sons, John (Soriyah) Carter, Jr. of New York and Mark (Sebrena) Carter of Columbus; two daughters, Mrs. Marie (Ronnie) Williams of Webster, New York and Ms. Michele Carter of Youngstown; one brother, Jesse Carter of Youngstown; three grandsons, Markquise Carter of Orlando, Florida, Chonn (Nikki) Williams of Henrietta, New York and Alex Carter of Rochester, New York; three granddaughters, Ms. Maressa Carter of Youngstown, Ms. Toni Williams of Webster, New York and Ms. Alexis Carter of Rochester, New York; three great-granddaughters, Miss Nia Williams, Miss Jaden Williams and Miss Phoofa Williams, all of Rochester, New York; a favorite cousin, Mrs. Carolyn (Jesse) Harris of Youngstown and a host of relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, A.J. Carter; one sister, Ms. Romelia Carter and one grandson, Maurise Kerns.
John was a good family man and was well loved, young and old people listened to him.
He always made people laugh, but could be serious when needed, giving good advice.
John and Jacquelyn were a very loving couple, who went everywhere together.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, November 22, 2016 at 12:00 Noon, at the Sterling-McCullough Williams Funeral Chapel Youngstown.
Calling Hours will be held one hour prior to service (11:00 a.m. – 12:00 Noon).
Burial will take place at Belmont Park Cemetery.
Arrangements of comfort were handled by the Sterling-McCullough Williams Youngstown Funeral Home.
