Wind turbine installed at Youngtown State University

The $300,000 turbine will produce between 70,000-80,000 kWh per year

A 105-foot tall wind turbine was being constructed at Youngstown State University on Friday.

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – A 105-foot tall wind turbine was being placed at Youngstown State University on Friday.

The $300,000 turbine will be at Wick Avenue and US-422. It was created by Green Energy Technologies and produces between 70,000-80,000 kWh per year.

Mark Cironi, president of Green Energy Technologies, said the turbine will be will completed by the end of the day Friday, but it will be commissioned on Monday. Green Energy Technologies, based in Warren, is the only wind turbine manufacturer in Ohio.

The turbine will be used for education services, as well as providing energy to YSU’s Melnick Hall.

The wind turbine was funded by a federal grant that Congressman Tim Ryan secured for YSU to create local jobs, according to Cirone.
